Tips for a family holiday at Lake Korpijärvi

The Southern Savonia region is an excellent summer holiday destination for families – whether you have small children or children at school. We have things to do for several days – and many child-friendly attractions where you can spend a couple of hours or even the whole day!

Spend a traditional holiday at cottage with children

If you are looking for a traditional cottage holiday with children, there are several holiday cottage options available for families with children in Korpijärvi area, which you can rent for a couple of days or more.

We have both traditional small summer cottages and villas with all modern amenities.

All our cottages suitable for families with children have a shallow child-friendly sandy beach and a courtyard safe for children. The nature surrounding the cottages is mostly a flat forest, where it is easy to walk with the little ones.

Holiday in Korpijärvi is especially easy with young children, as all our cottage rental companies offer cribs, highchairs, potties and bathtubs for children, as well as children’s life jackets for free, as long as you remember to book them well in advance. To make your stay easier, you can also book bed linen and final cleaning when booking a cottage.

It is advisable to pack your children’s favorite toys and things to do with you, especially for rainy days, but while staying at Korpijärvi you can also take advantage of activities for families in our area.

Borrow from our local entrepreuners a traditional Finnish summer game, Mölkky, volleyball equipment or badminton equipment, or spend the evening kicking a ball at Halmeniemi sports field. For the smallest children, toys are available on the sandboxes in the holiday cottages. On rainy days, for example, there are available indoor games and game consoles in cottages for bigger children.

When you come to Korpijärvi for a holiday, book a small backpack, a drinking bottle, a seating pad and decent hiking shoes for children. If you spend the days in the nearby forests and nature, then proper camping gear is also needed for the smaller ones. You can also take a swimsuit and a towel for the trips, as there are several swimming places suitable for children on the Mäntyharju hiking trails.

Active holiday with children

If you want to organize an active vacation with children in Korpijärvi, you can find geocaches and take boat trips. For example, the Korpisaari Island in Korpijärvi can be used as a destination for a family trip, where you can go for a picnic and wander. In all the large holiday cottages in our area, the rowing boat is included in the rental price of the cottage. Other hikers can rent boats from Tommolansalmi Holiday Centre (Kouvolantie 2216, 52700 Mäntyharju).

Children in the school as well as small children will certainly also enjoy two nearby activity parks: Tykkimäki in Kouvola and Visulahti in Mikkeli.

And if it rains, you can go with the children to the Kouvola Prisma Actionpark.

If your family’s kids are already bigger, we definitely recommend a day trip to Repovesi National Park and an active day at the Visulahti Xon Adventure Park, where you can try out a variety of extreme sports.

Besides active pursuit, you should also remember to relax! Older children and adolescents will definitely like Mäntyharju’s cinema featuring more than one movie for young people in summer 2019! The subtitles for the films are in Finnish, but English-speaking children can listen to the movie in English.
