ART, CULTURE AND HIKING TRAILS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Activities and services in the lake landscape

Attractions and activities in the center of Mäntyharju

The center of Mäntyharju is full of life especially during the summer, and there are many cultural events and activities for families with children.

The center of events in the downtown area is especially the Mäntyharju Market Square (Savontie 1, 52700 Mäntyharju). You can buy vegetables and berries in the summer, for example. There are also events on the market in summer.

For cultural enthusiasts and those interested in Finnish history, we strongly recommend that you visit the Art Centre Salmela, which is open in summer. Worth visiting is also the Iso-Pappila Open Air Museum, which is next to the Art Centre. Both sites are suitable for families with children. When you visit the museum, you can also visit the hiking trails behind the museum and take a break on Nuoliniemi lean-to.

In the center of the city, an absolute favorite for families with children is a Forest Playground. When you visit the park, you can also visit the Mäntyharju Market Square, which is less than one kilometer away.

There are several restaurants close to the attractions in the center, many of which are also suitable for families with children. See downtown restaurants and dining on the Restaurants in Mäntyharju page.

More information and photos of the sites can be found at Visit Mäntyharju (information in Finnish).

HIKING IN THE LAKESIDE

The center of Mäntyharju and its surrounding areas offers a great opportunity to combine a cultural and nature trip and spend a leisurely day in the lakeside landscape of Mäntyharju.

You can start your summer day excursion by exploring the area’s historical sites and cultural offerings, but then continue on the nature trails along the waterways, where you can have a picnic even on the lowlands. The varied dining options in the downtown area also allow you to stop by for dining in downtown restaurants or dine on the Mäntyharju Market in the summer.

In the lakeside scenery it is also worth hiking in the winter, as the ice conditions allow you to go ice skating, skiing or mountain biking on the ice.
