NATURE, CULTURE AND HISTORY
ATTRACTIONS AND ACTIVITIES AT LAKE KORPIJÄRVI AND IN SOUTHERN SAVONIA
Korpijärvi is located in Mäntyharju, a well-known cultural and hiking area, close to the wonderful hiking trails and sights of Southern Savonia, Kymenlaakso and South Karelia.
The most famous attractions in Mäntyharju include one of Finland’s most popular national parks, the Repovesi National Park, which is definitely worth seeing all year round. Also worth visiting is the Mäntyharju-Repovesi hiking trails, which were awarded as a outdoor destination for the year in 2015.
Mäntyharju also offers plenty of cultural sights during the summer: Art Centre Salmela’s Art Summer is one of Finland’s most popular summer events and the Ilokuvafestivaali Film Festival will gather film enthusiasts from all over Finland to Mäntyharju.
There are also many beautiful hiking trails in the surrounding area, which are also suitable for hiking with children, such as the hiking trails on Lake Kuolimo at Savitaipale.
Southern Savonia, Kymenlaakso and South Karelia also have historic mansions and other major historical sites.
There are thousands of years old rock paintings at Astuvansalmi, and the ruins of Kärnäkoski fortresses at Savitaipale. And if you drive about an hour’s drive to Lappeenranta, you can explore the Lappeenranta Fortress and its attractions.
