Small events in Mäntyharju in summer 2019
Mäntyharju is known for summer events such as Salmela Art Summer and Film Festival “Ilokuvafestivaali”, but there are also many other events in the municipality during the summer.
From this blog post you will find tips for smaller municipal summer events – all these experiences worth experiencing!
Pop-up art workshop and information desk
This summer, Mäntyharju’s market square (Savontie 1, 52700 Mäntyharju) offers a typical Finnish summer market life. Local farmers sell vegetables, berries and summer flowers and you can enjoy ice cream and coffee at the summer cafe.
However, you should also visit the market for other reasons. The specialty of the summer of 2019 is the pop-up art workshop of Mari Liimatainen, a Mäntyharju municipal artist, where art is translated into the center of the people. The event is free and will be held on July 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th from 10 am to 1 pm.
There is also a tourist information desk in Mäntyharju market square during the summer. So if you are in the downtown area and need some tips on interesting places to visit, go to the information desk for advice!
Movie theater Kino’s summer movies
Mäntyharju Cinema Kino (Kompantie 22, 52700 Mäntyharju) is a pioneer in cinema technology. The theater is the world’s first movie theater using FLEXOUND Augmented Audio technology developed in Finland. The technology adds a sense of sound to the sound and guarantees a completely new sound experience for the movies.
The movie theater in Mäntyharju, with new technology, is therefore a must-see for film fans, and in summer 2019 there are many opportunities to try this novelty at the movie theater – there is a family-wide favorite Pet Secret Life movie sequel, Aladdin starred by Will Smith, funny Beatles comedy Yesterday as well as Spider-Man – Far From Home. In mid-July, you can also watch the Disney movie Lion King at Kino.
The texts of the films are in Finnish, but the sounds of English-language films are in English.
Tickets for shows can be purchased on site or in advance from Nettilippu.
Antique Fair 20.7.2019

The event involves several different sellers around Finland. The fair is open on Saturday 20.7. 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 21.7. from 10 am to 4 pm.

In the spring of 2019, Yle launched a new cultural event, the Sauna Day campaign, to celebrate the Finnish sauna culture and open up Finnish saunas to the general public. The sauna day will be held on Saturday 27.7.2019.
The Mäntyharju sauna day is organized at Tommolansalmi Holiday Centre. You can book two beach saunas at Tommolansalmi free of charge. The event is a nice opportunity to experience the feel of a beach sauna, especially for those who do not have their own beach sauna in the summer.
