HISTORY, CULTURE AND NATURE EXPERIENCES
Family-friendly activity area open all year round
Iso-Pappila Open-Air Museum and Pappilanniemi outdoor activity area
Iso-Pappila Open-Air Museum is located next to Art Centre Salmela, about 3 km from the center of Mäntyharju.
There are buildings in the area from the 19th century and you can also discover what life was like in the farm in Finland about 100 years ago.
The Mäntyharju summer theatre, a veteran park and a military doughout museum are also in the area.
The museum area is ideal for families with children, as the entrance fee is charged only for adults, and there is plenty to do for children, such as stick horses, shop play and various yard games (activities are not necessarily offered every summer).
The historically valuable milieu with its gardens is also a good destination for photographers.
Behind the museum area, on the shores of Pyhävesi, is the Pappilanniemi outdoor area with about 10 km of hiking trail (Pappilanniemi hiking route) and a Nordic walking park. A suitable destination for families with children is the Nuotioniemi Lean-To on the Pappilanniemi route.
Pappilanniemi hiking trails can be found on the Mäntyharju map service by selecting first Aineistot (Materials) and then Ulkoilukartta (Outdoor Map) or Peruskartta (Basic Map).
The car park of the museum and hiking trails is the car park of the Kirkonkylä school (next to the museum area), Mäntyharjuntie 41, 52700 Mäntyharju.
